Progression and Credit

Progression agreements

SELLLN has established a Progression and Credit Group with representation from across the network. This group is overseeing the development and implementation of a Progression Accord, which demonstrates the commitment of our partners to working together to support vocational learners to progress to and through higher education.

We are also working on a series of progression agreements that will help deliver the commitment expressed in the Accord document. The agreements specify the entry requirements that will enable learners to progress onto specified HE programmes or groups of programmes. In some cases, agreements offer guaranteed interviews to learners who meet the entry requirements . They also describe the additional arrangements between universities and colleges about how they will work together to support vocational learners. Some progression routes are well established, and there is no need for an agreement to support learners on these courses.  The focus for the development of progression agreements has been where practitioners have identified progression to be problematic and the creation of an agreement would make a real difference to vocational learners.

Please click on the following links for details of the existing progression agreements in our sector areas.  We currently have agreements for learners at Bexley, City of Westminster, Greenwich Community, Lambeth, Lewisham, South Thames, Southwark and Tower Hamlets colleges.

Curriculum development

We are also working on a wide range of curriculum and course developments in our four priority sector areas. This involves the development of new courses where gaps in provision have been identified or making changes to existing courses, for example, to make them more flexible for learners. We are working with key partners/stakeholders including employers, Sector Skills Councils and LLU+, a specialist professional development unit in Language, Literacy and Numeracy Skills.

Credit

In the area of Credit, SELLLN commissioned a report on the use of Credit across the network.  A response to the report, outlining a number of recommendations on how the LLN can move forward in supporting vocational learners' progression using credit, has been agreed by the Progression and Credit Group.
