The first Great Practice In seminar, held on the 15th May 2009, was presented by Zia Rahmen from the more maths grads HEFCE funded project, which aims to change the perceptions of maths and ways of teaching maths. Zia offered an innovative approach to the teaching of maths and ways to relate this to popular culture. His approach via football and best angles for goals and working out goal averages was well received. Zia also demonstrated probabilities via interactive card tricks, which also went down well with the audience. This approach has been very successful in engaging a wide range of students, and showing staff and students alike that maths is not just a text book subject, but has actual applications to our lives and can actually be fun! ![]() Zia Rahman, more maths grads, presenting at the SELLLN Great Practice In seminar.
